Meetup: Oishi Oysters at Blue Ribbon Sushi

If you love oysters, you’re probably also partial other things seafood and raw. And where do you find unmatched reverence for the power of fresh, unadorned seafood? Japan! I’m excited to announce that the next NY Oyster Lovers Meetup will take place at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill (308 W. 58th St at Columbus Circle) on Monday, Nov. 12th at 6:30 pm. The Blue Ribbon restaurants have long garnered accolades for their bold culinary eclecticism, where you can get top notch sushi and mouthwatering fried chicken in the same place. As Frank Bruni wrote in the NY Times, “You don’t order the pan-roasted mahi-mahi at a restaurant that prides itself on steaks…But rules are made to be broken, and against all odds, every one of those things is terrific.”

The restaurant has created the following menu for us and it will be served family-style, a great way to try everything and meet your neighbors too!

Wakame: seaweed with sesame dressing
Raw oyster with Japanese-style sauce
Kaki Fri Maki: fried oyster roll
Yaki Hama: baked clams with miso butter
Una Kyu: eel wrapped in cucumber
Oyster sushi (chef’s choice)
Toro Tataki: seared tuna belly with tamari sauce
Pan Roasted Mahi Mahi: squash, carrot and ume plum butter sauce
Fried Chicken “Blue Ribbon Style” with wasabi honey
Unfried Rice: brown rice, poached egg, vegetables, scallions

The price for this dinner is $50 plus tax and tip. If you order any drinks or other menu items a la carte, please settle those with the server on your own. Our table is capped at 16, so if you’re interested in joining the fun, sign up soon before we’re out of space! Note: refunds will not be issued for this event, so please be confident that you can make it.
